I like both of them but ended up getting an iron as my first bike ... I live it you really can't go wrong with Any of the soortsters as you can make any of them your own!

You will like that front tire if you go with the 48.

Default Nightster

When I bought my 09 Nightster the 48 wasn't out yet.

I'm not sure I would have picked it over my Nightster anyway but who knows.

I agree you should get to know both bikes as much as possible.

Gripes about my Forty-Eight;
  • Footpeg clevis is different than ANY other Sportster, so if you don't like your stock pegs you need to either go buy a grinder or get out your wallet for replacement peg mounts
  • 2.1gal tank is fine for booze cruising, but really irritating on poker runs or any ride longer than a few hours
  • I'm personally not a fan of the seat, it leaves the rear fender to carry the profile line from the tank, which it does not do well
Gripes about the Nightster;
  • It's not my Forty-Eight :P
  • ...that last bulletin covered it really
Like some people are busting your ***** about, it's a personal preference more than anything. I can change my tank, footpegs, and seat, and still have my fatty front tire much easier than a Nightster owner tracking down a complete Forty-Eight front end.

Worst case scenario, you're allowed more than one motorcycle in your lifetime. I've got gutless jap bobbers, sport bikes that'll suck your eyeballs into your skull, and my '11 Forty-Eight.

Do your thing buddy, and ride free.

Ran into this the other day with pegs I bought at the dealer that say they fit all '07+ XL models. Where are you getting yours? I don't want to grind down the front of my stock mounts.
