Default How complicated is a tank lift?

I would like to do something to my bike this winter while it is just sitting in the garage. I was thinking about doing a tank lift. How complicated of a project is this? I was looking at maybe 2" or 3". Any benefits for one or the other? Do you have to drain gas, remove fuel lines? I have a 2005 xl883L. Thank you for any help.

Out Tank Lift Kits come with everything you need for installing. Easy job - 20 minutes max. No fuel line or wires need to be touched. If you PM me your email address I will send you a copy of the step-by-step instructions that come with the kit.

We have them in 1.5", 2", 2.5" and 3".

Here is a link to a short article on how to choose which size you will like the best.

Here's a pic of a 2" lift..that is the most popular size-

Default 2" lift

I used the DK 2" on my Rocker. I also decided to add rubber grommets to the tank ears to keep the vibration down, and the fit tight. Most sportys have a smaller cross bolt. I decided to remove the tank and rewire to keep things clean. All you really need is some black ties and maybe a set of hands. My wife won't let me do her Hugger so, I can't address your bike. I would suggest lifting the tank and measuring by getting some help before your purchase. I probably would have gone 21/2 or 3 if I had the help measuring. Also found calling DK a pleasure, as he was very nice and helpful. Good Luck

I looked at the DK site. I would like to do a tank lift and it appears relatively easy to do. But, my '06 XLC has a tilted back riser where the speedo is located. I'm afraid that if I were to lift the tank, there would not be enough clearance for turns. Also, I am want to do some 10" mini apes. I'm thinking the, (not sure what that piece is called) curved riser thing where speedo is located, has to go. Clueless as to the next step. Speedo relocate? New riser piece? Before a tank lift?

Thanks for all the replies. I'm thinking if I do a tank lift I would also want to do the coil and ignition relocation. What is the purpose of the ignition relocation? Does it take away some wires that show during the tank lift? Also I read that on my year Sportster I would have to relocate the ignition behind the rear rocker. Do I need to splice wires to extend them if I am putting the ignition back there or will the existing wire fit. Thanks
