I looked at the DK site. I would like to do a tank lift and it appears relatively easy to do. But, my '06 XLC has a tilted back riser where the speedo is located. I'm afraid that if I were to lift the tank, there would not be enough clearance for turns. Also, I am want to do some 10" mini apes. I'm thinking the, (not sure what that piece is called) curved riser thing where speedo is located, has to go. Clueless as to the next step. Speedo relocate? New riser piece? Before a tank lift?
The best way for you to know what size lift you will like best (and if you have any clearance issues) is to test it out...it is easy.
Loosen the rear tank bolt under your seat. Take out the front tank bolt. Lift the tank up a bit in front and put a towel between it and the frame at different heights to see which look you like best.
You can do the above with your current set-up, and if there are clearance issues, then get you bars/risers/speedo how you want and then do the above to see what you like best.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm thinking if I do a tank lift I would also want to do the coil and ignition relocation. What is the purpose of the ignition relocation? Does it take away some wires that show during the tank lift? Also I read that on my year Sportster I would have to relocate the ignition behind the rear rocker. Do I need to splice wires to extend them if I am putting the ignition back there or will the existing wire fit. Thanks
There is NO cutting or splicing of wires needed for tank lift, coil relocation or ignition key relocation. It is all an easy re-routing of existing wires.
Purpose of the ignition relocation is to get rid of clutter between the backbone and the front rocker cover AND no more leaning forward to turn the key off by feel. With the key between the cylinder or behind the rear cylinder with the F6, it is easier to reach and you can see it.
I ran my 09 Sporty with the ignition switch up at the relocated coil for quite a while, the moved it down behind the rear cylinder...I think it looks cleaner there.
