Wow, that's pretty aggressive. The bike doesn't ping like that? What grade of fuel do you run?

93 octane. No pinging. Very smooth. Do you have that module? Settings?

Yes, I bought a tc88a recently but I haven't installed it yet. I have no idea what to use for the settings. I talked to Chris at daytona twin tech about what I should use for a safe/stock setting and he never gave me an answer. I have heard about people reporting problems with pinging at lower settings though. I was going to try 1/4 to start off, but I haven't done it yet.

On the Daytona site they have the instructions for the module to download and it says 5/5 is close to stock settings but I believe that is for the big twins and not the Sportster from what I've heard.
Turbota from XL Forums sent me his custom map that XL OCD and many others are using and like. The bad thing is you have to have the $80 (or whatever it is) cable to be able to hook it up to a computer and download or upload to it. On the XL Forum some people were sharing a cable and just sending it to others to use. Maybe we could do that here if someone has the cable or is planning on buying one. Of course whoever was getting it sent to them could pay for the shipping. Yea I'm cheap but dammit I'm also slowly going broke.

Yes, the 5/5 is recommended for big twins that have a much lower compression ratio. Plus, the base map that comes with the tc88a is written for the big twins.

The bad thing is you have to have the $80 (or whatever it is) cable to be able to hook it up to a computer and download or upload to it. On the XL Forum some people were sharing a cable and just sending it to others to use. Maybe we could do that here if someone has the cable or is planning on buying one.
I have the maps he made and I was going to burrow a cable from a friend to try them out. I will also inspect the cable and see if perhaps I can't find a way to produce it cheaply. In the meantime I was hoping to just try the the settings on the module and see what happens. I would just like to start out with a safe setting. At some point I just may pay for the dyno time to have a custom map made.

I installed mine with the twin cam base settings and it was fine. The initial setting of 5 will increase your idle speed tho. I talked with Chris too when I first put mine in and what he said was start at 5/5 which is pretty close to stock, even for the sportsters. Only when I had it dynoed was when those settings got more aggressive.

I actually was interested in that piece of information. Were the gains you see on your dyno sheet due to changes to the carb, changes to the ignition settings, or both?

The blue line on my sheet was at 5/5 and after the carb work. My guy lost the original baseline in cyberspace. You can see the tweaking of the module smoothed out the curves.
