As someone who took a nearly 6600 mile road trip with his kid on a Sporty this past summer, I would say there could be potential for a Sportstour IF the factory fixes the suspension and does it RIGHT this first time (yeah, right!) There are some seriously sucky roads back east, and we still beat ourselves up on some days even with Progressive springs up front and 412s out back. In addition, in my mind a Sportstour would have the Roadster front end & dual brakes to increase the stopping power, something I wish I'd had on more than one occasion during our travels. It would also need a better clutch for durability, not the OEM POS with the weak spring plate that's notorius for grenading (ask me how I know this!)
That said, given its size I would see a Sportstour being a solo bike only, which might limit its appeal. I've been asked if I would do a major trip again with my son, and my answer is an emphatic yes...just not on a Sporty; if it's by myself, then no problemo.
