Yeah I don't like foorboards at all, in fact a couple of the guys I ride with that have BT touring bikes or (RKs) have removed the footboards and gone to pegs and they really like it much better that way.

The nice things about the Sportster is the light weight and standard seating position. Why take those away. there are plenty of tour bikes out there.

Absolutely NOT!! It isn't a chick bike. I ride a Fatboy, and we once had a 79 Sportster Shovel with only a kickstart in 79-80. Sportsters have been a staple in the Motor Company's stable, and just because we now have more wanna be bikers, and hyper pronounced mid life crisis on full display, they buy their Big Twins and thumb their noses and slam those who happen to ride a smaller Harley. You would have never heard such obsurd debates back when I started riding. They're Harley's okay. They're all big, fast, look good, and sound good. Period.

I've ridden sport bikes for the past 15 years and this is my first Harley. This 1200 has way more get up and go than any 1000cc sportbike I have ridden. I'm 5'6" and 140 lbs and this 1200 is more than enough bike for me.

HD had a touring Sportster in the 70's. It came with hard bags, windshield and a much thicker seat.

They are sought after collector bikes now.

a 1200 Harley has more get up and go than a 1000cc Sportbike??, there's no way.

a stock 1200 harley can't do a wheelie, a 600cc sportbike can do one no problem.

Power delivery is a lot different than what I'm used to.

V-Rods are pretty fast, but any other stock Harley would be hard pressed to keep up with some of the 250cc sport bikes. Even a few scooters... I have an 883 Sportster, probably the slowest Harley, and never considered performance when I bought it; when I want to feel my arms stretch a little, that's what the Honda 750 sharing the garage with the Sporty is for. The Harley, even the "little" one, isn't about speed or cornering, it's about comfort, and maybe even more about looks and sound. That Honda at 10,000 rpm definitely performs, but I think it sounds kind of annoying. One thing that does surprise me about the Sporty versus Honda - the smaller Honda engine has better low end torque, doesn't seem right. Women seldom glance at the Honda going by, but almost every one looks at the Harley. Since I'm a retired baby boomer, I doubt if I'll be scraping any pegs anyway. Or picking up those ladies...

My Sport-Tourer. Avon Venoms, progressive front springs, MP3 player with 100wt.speakers on the QR windshield, Garmin GPS, Kury Stirrups ( much more versatile than floorboards for Me ), Engine guard with highway pegs, Saddlebags, luggage rack ( with rear bag for long trips ), 4.5 gal fuel tank, Mustang seat . Even have a attachment for the battery to charge My cell . 6 hour ride to Buffalo from here was fine ( stopped more to **** than for gas LOL ! ). .....Ride Safe.....WVleo
