Help me improve my forks.

Not a bad price, but I'm not sold on drop-in gadgets like this...has to be a band-aid for an inferior design to begin with is all I can figure. Then again I'm an offroad guy so things might be different there. I also in no way believe that this thing has ANYTHING to do with what a fork brace does. The twist in these babies is ridiculous. Those things won't change that.

I drained the old fork oil out Fri. evening. My god the first 3/4 of it was BLACK and somewhat metallic...stunk to high heaven. I then "flushed" with ATF and it all came out cherry red. I "topped off" with 12.5 oz. of the ATF then stuffed the PRogressive springs in AFTER cleaning them with G96. They were fairly gross out of the box and I didn't want that crap in my forks. They were no harder to install than removing the stockers...meaning a very similar amount of pre-load. The stock springs were MUCH shorter and smaller diameter coils. They used like a 10" long thin stainless spacer. With 12.5 oz. I was measuring 5.25-5.5" oil level which the instructions say to run regardless of the factory manual's 4.8" level due to greater displacement with the aftermarket springs.
I still had my OEM rears shocks on Saturday, but we rode 2-up all day and WOW the difference is amazing. With the Superbrace I will be more than happy with this setup. I tossed the lowered RK shocked on Sat. night, but it's been too cold to ride since. Can't wait.
Oh yea, to get the caps back on I didn't want to pay another $20 for the 35mm axle nut socket, but like a good Ford mechanic I had a 36mm on hand so a few wraps with electrical tape and it was a PERFECT fit for hand tightening the caps back down.
