Jackal, this tool from Progressive makes adjust the fork oil level very easy, it's called an FOL-1 if you search for it at J&PCycles. I put Pregressive springs and BelRay 7w fork oil in my 2007 1200C, it came in handy.

Actually, I'm finding the Progressive springs for just under $60, so I'm gonna go that route with my Mobile-1 oil measured from a ratio-rite. That should take care of the front end.

Progressive 11-1527

It seems odd to me that you don't seem to buy street bike springs based on spring rate though...I haven't seen any info on stock or Progressive lowering / non-lowering spring rates.

is that FOL-1 thingy a syringe you can replace oil from the bottom? or is it just a device that lets you measure accurately from the top with the caps off?

I ordered Progressive springs and a Superbrace. I will probably do the spring swap this weekend. The manual calls for 12.3 oz. for the XL1200N and other "L" models when not removed from triple trees. (This is from memory, so don't quote me on that as I've seen it mentioned that N models use 13.6.) I'm going to flush them several times with the ATF since nothing cleans like it does really.

Here is the data on several different fork oils including the ATF. Seems like a great 10-12w with more stable high temp viscosity. Like I said I've used it offroad for like 10 years now and haven't had any issues, or any more fork seal leaks for some reason.

Product: 104 deg / 212 deg viscosity
-----------------------------------
BelRay 5w: 17.1/4.1
BelRay 7w: 29/5.2
BelRay 10w: 33/5.9
Mobil-1 ATF: 34/7.6
BelRay 15w: 53/7.5

They are on sale on ebay for $170 right now too. No need for a superbrace with intiminators. Put mine through the paces last week up to 110. Solid as a rock and rides like it's on rails.

Not a bad price, but I'm not sold on drop-in gadgets like this...has to be a band-aid for an inferior design to begin with is all I can figure. Then again I'm an offroad guy so things might be different there. I also in no way believe that this thing has ANYTHING to do with what a fork brace does. The twist in these babies is ridiculous. Those things won't change that.
