You can do it yourself, but yes all the problems will most likely stem from this and possible issues with tire pressure and balance of the tires.

Hello,
I had somewhat the same problem, tires have helped allot, try Metzners, good tires, proper pressures. Also check for tureness of the rims and how the wheels turn on the bike, lit & rotate the wheels.

Did your bike act like a jumping bean before the 16" apes were installed? At 85+ MPH on a Sportster without a windshield, your body can catch a lot of turbulence with your arms in the air.

Check for a bent rim as well!

...don't forget to see if you have a slipped belt in the front tyre. Be sure there isn't a bulge in the sidewall anywhere - and the opposite is also true, look for any spots that seem thin when pressed upon.

Didn't tour before I had the 16" installed. So no way to find out. Thanks everyone, after reading so many different possibilities, what struck me is that could it be the cause of tyre pressure?

Before touring, I pumped my tyres according to the numbers stated on the tyres. And I found out after that the numbers given were the max amount of air that the tyres could hold. And for a pillion as well but I was running solo.

Could this equate to the very bad wobbling? I'm thinking of getting the tyre pressure right, and trying again to see if the bike still wobbles. Wouldn't be the best idea cause it could be dangerous. What do you guys think?

Those numbers written on the tyre sidewall are a darned nuisance! They are very misleading. What they tell us is when the tyre is pumped to the stated pressure (often 40psi) what the maximum weight is they can carry. They do NOT state the maximum pressure we can use, nor does it state the maximum load we can use. You are better off completely ignoring those numbers!

If in doubt contact your preferred tyre brand. They may have recommended pressures on their website, or email them for advice. I wrote to Avon and the maximum pressure their Venoms can be used is 50psi.

You can certainly safely use higher pressures than on your tyre sidewalls and if your tyre pressures are not high enough they will certainly badly affect handling. When fully loaded with wife and luggage I use 44F/50R with the Venoms on my Glide.

So its not the fault of the tyre pressures then? Well, was hoping that they were. Haha.
