My 1995 XLH883 Project Bike
I started a thread awhile back wanting to see some bobbers for ideas on my project bike.
I bought a 1995 Harley Davidson Sportster XKH883 for a project bike. I went through several fazes on what I wanted to build out of it. At first I thought about making it a bobber or a chopper, then after I raced it on the dirt Speedway track on Harley Night at the Costa Mesa Speedway Races I had so much fun I thought I'd make it into a street tracker. Lately I've been thinking about going back to my old roots and making a cafe racer out of it. I've pretty much settled on the cafe racer now however instead of putting cafe type handle bars on it I'm going to keep the stock bars. Reason being I still want to race it on the dirt track every Harley night. The stock bars are a pretty good compromise because they are low and narrow enough to pass for cafe racing but still just wide enough for leverage to race on the dirt track. Bottom line is it won't quite fit in any category, it will just be "my bike".
I started a web site to document my progress. I haven't done much yet, just convert it to chain drive and change the seat. I'm waiting for my cafe faring to get here then it will be time for paint.

Yeah I could still go that way. It's just that Harley Night at Costa Mesa Speedway is only 2 nights a year. The rest of the time I'm on the streets and I like cafe racers. I'm kind of building a "cafe tracker". Hey, maybe I'm starting something new here! Haha!
