Default long haul question...

got a question for the people that like the longer hauls / daily riders.... does everyone still use the standard pegs that seem to cut my foot in two on the longer rides or is there a trend to a better "foot holder"??? i rode my dad's heritage springer the other day (nice bike) and started to like the floorboards with heel / toe shifter he had on it.... just wondering if i am getting into the non-sportster area, before i go cutting an welding - has anyone done this before? any problems to look out for? any help appreciated, save me many a headache n swearing episode. There are some after market companies that make floorboards for just about anything. Also forward controls, or at least highway pegs might help.

Regards,

Bill

the solution is forward controls and footpegs with heel rest. I bought heelrest & pegs from the HD dealer, they are Kuryakin (spelling) $100 or there about for the set that includes pegs and heel rest. the heel rest is adjustable so you can set the angle that your foot rest at. Well worth the money in my opinion. I checked and could not find footboards for the Sporty, not to say there aren't any but I couldn't find them.

I'd say keep the mid controls and go with highway pegs that way you have three different positions to choose from, your standard mids, highways to get a good stretch and the forgoten passenger pegs when you want to lean into the wind. Kuryakin makes a mini board that may work.

Mine are stock, but I have some hwy pegs up there so I can change positions. I prefer the midmount shifter. Now the fwd controls on my friend's rk are great, but they just strike me odd on a sport. To each his own. Maybe if you could find someone who had em so you could see what you think.

hmm thinkin about the work it might take to put on some new controls n boards... more work, but never didn't like workin on my bike (excluding the side of the road). i was just wondering if anyone else had thought/ done this to their sportster before.... thinkin i might once i get back to texas, give me a reason to start touchin other parts to [sm=smiley32.gif] ... i'll have to start looking around for the needed parts n start thinking how i want to make this mod "invisible", or stock if you will. but thanks for the replys. hmm kinda like the way it is set up, just how does it ride on a longer ride.. say 4 to 6 hours in the saddle? i wanna have my bike be a daily set of wheels to work, but on the weekends when i wanna get outta the state, i don't want to hurt doing it. the vibrations aren't my biggest worry, i'm still young enough to not care - but i did a 6 hour ride one day and i thought my feet were getting cut / ripped in half. just what i am tryin to get around, but thanks for the ideas...

these will for sure cure that problem. they also give you a solid base for your feet and that takes alot of pressure off your hips on longer rides.

i made my own foot pegs out of 1/4 inch steel plate. I used a plasma torch to cut out skull shapes that are just the right size for my feet, like a skull shaped floor board. Kuryaken makes a peddle called the switch blade that has a flip down heal rest for about $99. They look pretty nice. Might be worth a look.[sm=bangbang.gif]
