Default New member with Dead speedo and missing front signals

Greetings,

I am new to the forum after picking up a '99 883 Sportster a few days ago. I thought I got a great deal but am now wondering how deep in it I am. I am hoping someone can help me. The speedometer is backlit and the warning lights function but the needle sits at 0 and the odometer is not increasing with mileage. The previous owner removed the front signals and put a Badlands module in, I assume to control the rear signals. They do not self cancel however. How hard will it be to replace the front signals and could the missing signals and/or the module be affecting the speedo? The error code on the speedometer is d02. I have the repair manual but since the wiring has been modified im not sure where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

they dont self cancel because the module is based off the speedo. If the speedo does not work the self cancel will not work, Your speedo doesnt work because your speed sensor is bad. You can remove the sensor and try to clean it off, thats what I did, but it didnt work. More than likely you will need a new sensor, its about 52 bucks at the stealership. I have the same problem as you on my 2000 xl1200s
