Question X14IED question

I have a 2011 48 with rush slip on mufflers. The bike has popped ever since on deceleration. It sounds like backfire. I just bought some x14ied's and will install them as soon as I get them.

For future reference, I plan on getting some sort of intake for the bike. Will the x14ied's be enough for an intake, slip-on's and the stock tune?

Thanks for the insight!

I have the same exact set up at the moment. After installing the X14ied's the decel popping slowly started to go away. 500 miles after install and it rarely ever pops now.

I might try the Xied's when I get a bigger breather. I emailed Nightrider and they said the 2011 Sportsters are having better results with the Xied's. I found the X14's dirt cheap so I picked them up for the time being though.

I have a 48 with slip-ons and Xied's. Youll still get popping when in open loop (engine cold). Closed loop is good. As the website says the computer will learn to tune itself for open loop after a while.

I think the Xieds will keep you from being too lean if you add an intake as well, but they are not a replacement for a full stage 1 dyno tune.

hold that thought , doesnt the xieds have a target ratio of 14.0 or 13.8 afr cross the board ?? while looking at the stage 1 download has 14.6 ratio on a huge board from 35 kpa up to 75kpa...

another thought , would like to see some pics of the spark plugs , stock , xied , and different tuners ... would love to see whats going on with different combos

The Xied has a target of 13.8 and the X14 has a target of 14.0. They directly affect closed loop AFR targets, but indirectly they end up enriching open loop also due to the learning feature in the HD ECU. Now, the learning adjustments are pretty tiny, probably only like .2 AFR, but they do shift over time with the installation of the Xieds.

My personal opinion is that any pre-set stage 1 download is going to be sub-optimal, and ALL bikes should be custom mapped on a dyno with a wideband AFR meter by a competent tuner.

I have slip-ons, K&N cone AC and XiEDs. I had X14iEDs and traded them for the XiEDs as I didn't notice any improvement from the 14s. I could have had a bad set. With the XiEDs I still get some decel pop if I let off the throttle abruptly but it's not bad. The bike seems to runs pretty good.

I just got the X14ieds. I installed them the same time as my pipes, stock AC though, but no pop. I have to agree with 9x19 about the dyno tune. The ied's are not that, more of a stop gap. But for the $ Im not sure they can be beat. I went back and forth between weather I should get the x or x14 and decided on the 14. But a tuner and dyno time are in my future.

*edit* As far as I know the HD "stage 1" download doesnt change the AF ratio to keep the EPA happy. If it does its still way lean. I think it just changes the rev limiter and timing.
