Default How Do Others View 883's??

I was curious how other H/D owners think of us 883's? I'm guessing a Harley is a Harley.

I bought my 1200 because I thought the 883 was unacceptable for reasons of, well... ego. After 6 months on the bike I love it for what it is, and wonder if the 883 is a hornet with it's *** on fire in the twists. Every bike is what it is and they are all awesome.

No REAL motorcycle or Harley enthusiast would ever put down a bike with as much history as the Sportster.

The truth alot of people call them starter bikes or chick bikes ... I don't agree at all, I bought a used 1991 883 back in 1993 it was quick , I had it bored out to 1200 with wesco pistons (its been a while I believe that was the model pistons ) now the engine has a 10 to 1 compression (again its been a while) added a chrome back sproket which was two to 3 teeth less which helps a little with top end.. the sporters are quick bikes for harleys it all comes down to horses to weight ratio the sportys might be smaller in engine size but the less weight they have to move makes up for it. as far as the larger bikes having larger engines alot of guys just like the larger engines because that is what was offered they refer to the smaller engines as small bikes but alot of them forget the older big harleys were 1200 cc's and caring all that weight... I still have my bike and still love it...

Well. Let's think 60's and 70's. The Norton Comandos and Triumph bikes were the nut. Even the 883's were consitered bigger bikes.

the only differnce between a 1200 and an 883 is the whole engine set-up/....i have an 883 and i will converting it into a 1200 soon (i want more power)...sporty's are great bikes, they handle well and have been around a long time....they have a good name....anyone that outs them down is a jerk off....and regards to those who make fun of the sportsters for being small when they have big bikes....i think it is a personal problem they have....if you know what im sayin..............

There is a good article in the Enthusiast magazine this month about the sporty.

I have only ridden one once and thought it was a great bike.
