This is my next project and I did not want to have the dealership do it. Great writeup, thanks.
You bet! Save yourself some money and a trip out. Do it in the evening, that way you won't miss any ride time. The glue can set up overnight, and this will give it more than enough time to cure.
Nice write up. We like pictures, don't we?
Some sets of grips do not require glue on the left grip. The pinching action of the switch housing secures it. The last grips I glued on was 9 years ago, so read the directions and don't freak out if the grips don't come with glue.
Did you use card board to hold the brake lever open to protect the stop lamp switch?
Nope. Didn't do anything with the brake lever, the switch is in the lower switch housing, which was not removed. The lever housings are designed to mate securely to the switch housing.

Thanks. Yeah, I figured the more photos, the easier to follow. I completely agree, read the directions first, before installing anything on your bike.
Man oh Man! I was not able to get the left grip off of my wife's '07 883 Low this morning, and I did not want to cut the sucker. I gently prodded with screwdrivers and tried to roll it off (don't know where I got that idea), and it was just not coming off. I came inside to search old faithful H-D Forums and found your absolutely fabulous pictorial. I went outside and shot a spray of W-D 40 in there, and stuck the air hose in there, and it just dropped off in my hand!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
