Until you post back that you have followed the repeated instructions above to check it again when the motor is warmed up...............................

I agree with the guys saying that the light is a pressure light, not a level light... is it too late when the light comes on? No. H-D isn't gonna give you a light that says it is too late. It is a warning, and one that needs to be tended to immediately. Does it mean that the engine has already sustained damage? Nope. But if you see it come on, you do need to pull over at the very next safest location and check the level, then diagnosis the problem from there. You have a small window of time if the bike is not properly oiling itself, to get it fixed.

Yeah, if the light comes on, pull over as soon as you possibly can (safety permitting).

If two quarts of oil evaporated into thin air without any sign or trace of a plausible reason on my motorcycle, the oil light would be the last thing on my mind period.

As the bike sits, the oil drains slowly into the engine from the tank. The reason for checking the oil warm is to run the engine so that the scavenger pump pumps the oil back into the tank. If you check it cold after it has been sitting for a few days the level will be low in the tank. If you then fill it up to level then start the bike, it will then be overfilled and can possibly pressurize the tank causing it to split at the seams. Then you will have a big mess.
