Default primary oil change

Changed out the primary/tyranny oil today with Mobil1 75w90 (switched from Amsoil 20w 50) but can't really tell a difference from initial test ride.

A couple questions though...the gear oil started dripping out towards the end of the quart on the jiffy stand so I'm assuming you have to have the bike level to fill it with the whole quart?

Also, any down side of just pouring the oil through the primary chain inspection cover? Taking off the left footpeg to get the primary cover off is kind of a pain.

Yes on bike level. No downside of pouring through inspection cover that I know of, I do it all the time. It all goes the same place.

Cool. Thanks for the info. I'll try that next time... might need to get a hose of some sort or a skinny funnel.

Same way you can use a 12 point socket on a hex head bolt.

Allen is a hex, Torx 12 point.

They fit, but seldom survive.

Manual states (for the new sporty anyway) the bike must be level (a 2x4 under the jiffy stand gets it very close to level), and the fluid should come up onto (but not above) the bottom most teeth on the large primary chain drive gear.

Mine took almost exactly a full quart, I think I might have had 1 ounce left over.

Be sure to clean the shavings off of the magnetic drain plug if you have a magnetic plug.

Interesting...never tried it. Figured if someone saw a star torx shape, and had an Allen wrench they would go get some star shaped bits

Kind of like this:

I will admit that I have used a small flat head screwdriver on torx bits before, but it was only in a pinch and for low torque applications.

As far as getting a funnel I saw someone on U tube making a funnel out of paper. I took a piece of printer paper and made one. Worked great. One less thing to clean.
