Helps out tremendously. This is precisely the information I needed to know. The owner did text me back and said that their was a decal on the handlebars or somewhere up front that said XL1200C. He wasn't sure about the Vin. It does have the slotted black pully and the chrome engine. Bike has 10,421 miles on it. If it all checks out, it will be on my trailer this afternoon headed back to Louisiana.
I read all the information on the 2004 1200 engine on motorcruiser.com last night. Their is a ton of improvements on the 2004 engine over the 2003. Personally, I like the colors on the 2003 anniversary model. Believe the 2004 model has around 70hp and was designed with improvements from the buell motor, larger cooling fin's oil spray under the pistons, hotter cam and other engine additions. Not sure what the stock HP is on the 2003.
Will look into the seat swap to the 883 model. Thinking about another Corbin single seat also.
Would be interested to hear what kind of reliabilty, maintenance and riding issues you'all have had with your 1200c's. My first chore on the bike will be a thorough cleaning and maintenance check. It does have a little over 10,000 miles on it and I know that the 10,000 mile maintenance has not been done, he did indicate that he recently change all the fluids to synthetic. I will have to find a 2003 maintenance manuel for that information. I never thought I would get a 2nd Harley, but what do I know. lol
Thanks again for all the information. It never ceases to amaze me all the information that is available from members of the hdforum's. Thanks to the hdforums for being there for us.

Well good luck then!
There are pro's & con's between the 03 & 04 but they basically cancel each other out. It's a nice ride. I haven't had any trouble with any of them other than the oil light pressure light leaking (simple fix) on one. With the right maintenance it'll run forever.
But just so you know, they do sound like sewing machines when they get warm. Don't let that freak you out if you test ride it.

883C had a silver powder coated engine including the primary and cam cover and polished aluminum valve covers and a silver solid rear wheel. The 1200C had black on the heads and barrels and chrome primary, valve covers and cam cover and a chrome slotted rear wheel. If it's a TuTone bike the 1200's had Tutone fenders as well as tank the 883's didn't the fenders where just silver. The top of the handle bar clamp does say either 883 or 1200 Custom.

2003 Anniversary Sportster
Well, I just pulled in to NW Louisiana after a 500+ mile trip with the Sportster in tow on my Kendon trailer. It is in fact, a XL1200C engine and all the information provided by the forum members above were correct. The 7th item in the VIN was P with a CG in front of it, indicating it was a 1200c engine.
I was pleasantly surprised when I first saw the bike in the owners garage. He described the bike as having some scuffing issues on the front fork and the front fender but it really was nothing and will buff out easily. The bike was in much better condition than he described. He wanted me to know that the bike was not clean, in fact, quite dirty. This guy does not know what dirty is. He had only put a 1000 miles on the bike since he bought it in April of this year out of a Texas Craigslist listing. I couldn't be happier with the condition of this bike. It has ISO grips with palm rests, slip on pipes of unknown origin but relatively loud and they look great. Also included was a HD quick detachable windshield that he had purchased but never installed. In my opinion, I paid much less than what this bike was worth and considerably less than what he was originally asking. With only 10,421 miles on the bike it has a lot of miles left in it. Looks like my Deuce will take a back seat for awhile but the Deuce deserves it, it has given me over 50,000 miles of trouble free riding with a lot of miles still left in it.
Thanks to all again for the information on this year of bike.
