Default Short shots with no intake or remap

I just installed black short shots on a stock 2011 Iron with stock intake and no remap. Was told it would not damage the engine but might run like crap and backfire. I have taken it for 2 short rides since and it seems to run even better and no backfiring, love the sound might be just a touch to loud but we will see. Just looking for some more input from others who have done the same thing, any problems or damage that you have experienced.

It should be fine. It isn't going to make it run any leaner. I would say go the extra mile and get a tuner and hi flow air filter. That will really wake that bike up. Right now you are just getting sound, and if that is all you want, don't worry about it.

Shouldn't have any trouble with just pipes. If you do the A/C then you're gonna need something. Do a search for xied's thats all you'll need if you do that.

if you got the money put a high flow air intake and a power commander on it. let those pipes do what they were designed for.

I've been riding like that for two years, no worries. Those pipes will quiet down a little once you get some carbon built up in them.

I ran V&H side shots on my 48 for a month before putting on an RSD air cleaner and the bike ran fine. Once I put the air cleaner on the bike started surging and back firing and running hot. If you decide to change the A/C and money isn't an issue, I would recommend buying a race tuner and going for a dyno tune. Just had mine done and the bike now makes over 20 more horsepower with just pipes and an A/C.

Over 20 horsepower with a/c, pipes and tune? That seems a little hard to believe, got a sheet to show? Because if that's true I'm going to get a dyno tune like tomorrow lol

20 horse?! Jeeezus! I don't even think the manufacturers claim anything close to that.

I've been running those same pipes plus the v&h naked air filter with x14ied's for 500 miles. Runs perfectly and the spark plugs look good. IMO the ied's are a good lower priced alternative to remap if you're just running pipes and/or ac.

Do this
Dont blow a ton of money on tuners that dont work right half the time and dyno time if all you are going to do is the pipes and ac

It's been said if all you do is slip ons or pipes you will be fine I have no comment on that since i really dont know

i think the fact that the SS are so free flowing causes the most issues without a tune, just as a point of info I have been running a PM air cleaner with a 2-1 exhaust without any tune or xied or anything and have been better than fine
