air, exhaust, computer upgrade for 883
I have a 2012 883 Iron which I eventually intend to do a 1200 conversion on. Will upgrading the air, computer and exhaust give me any significant difference in power until I perform the 1200 conversion. If it is not going to do much I don't want to waste my money.

Not being smart...just do not understand?????

It will make it little more responsive, but I wouldn't call it significant gain in HP. Beside, doing all of it along with dyno tuning to max out power will put you right in the ballpark for the price of new 1200, and still less power. On the other hand, you'd put pipes and A/C on 1200 anyway, so money spent one way or the other. Just take your time, do first 1000 miles and figure out what you want. IMO most people do mods for look & sound, not necessarily for performance.

I don't know about in the states, but up here in Canada a Iron is around $8779, a Nightster is about $12300 a difference of about $3500. The conversion of a 883 to a 1200 is about $2500 at the HD dealer, saving me about $1000, does that make sense? Also, you can't get a Nightster that has the blacked out look of the Iron.
I don't remember saying that I "need" more power, but I do want more power. Why do people buy new bikes instead of a cheaper used one? Well, owning new is nice, you know what you are getting, and you know that the engine was broken in properly. There is also the fact that there are almost no used Irons for sale in my country, and isn't modifying your Harley one of the great things about owning a Harley?

Honestly, I would do both the 1200 conversion with the other upgrades to save you from having to do an additional dyno.

I wouldn't recommend him to buy the x14ied's if he's planning on getting the 1200 soon. He'd have to get it dyno'd anyways.
However, it's an option to buy them; HOWEVER, it will only richen your mixture and not provide much of a boost to your HP/TQ like a proper dyno tune.

Mich...I put the V&H 2into1 pipes on mine with a screamin eagle heavy breather and the stage one download. Pretty significant change in "peepyness" and it likes to run at a higher RPM now. I once talked to a Harley mechanic and he told me the greatest crime most 883 owners commit is running at too low of RPMs. He said the bike gets it's peak performance at around 7000 and most owners run around 5000. I really like the look, sound and performance I am geting out of mine right now and it hangs right in there with any of the 1200s I ride with. I think overall the aftermarket stuff cost me about $2000 with labor. I like the 883 cause people take it fro granted until I start it up and we start riding...then they quickly form a new opinion. Good luck!!
