I side mounted mine in less than 5 min on my 08' Nightster. The plate mount is adjustable with a bunch of slots and holes all over. It breaks down into two pieces, so I removed the outer half and turned it 90 deg... and put the screws back in.

I'm a genius.. I think...

Don't you have to have lights on it over there? Just curious.

I made the side plate mount awhile ago, I put a 1/4" high output LED spot light in the rear directional to light it.

I still don't get it. What is the big deal about doing this to your license plate?

I just made one out of steel from Lows for $5 bucks and it looks killer and it strong. I mounted mine to the left belt tensioner stud with an extra nut I got at the dealer.

"I still don't get it. What is the big deal about doing this to your license plate?"

When you chop your fender, in most cases the tailight and plate have to be relocated, because where they went isn't there anymore....

It's a pain in the butt here in FL, because our stupid rules say you can't have them mounted vertically....I'm still thinking about how I want to do mine.

Get one from a 48, its horizontal. I didnt like how it stuck out so far on mine though. It has an adjustable extension to accommodate different size plates. I took the extension off and mounted the plate vertical.
