All Sportsters seem to run a bit differently. If the plugs look good, it's probably running the way it should.
As for bars, everyone has a different preference. Barring and physical injuries/requirements, a person will eventually adapt to the bars. Personally, I have a high spring seat and low drag bars. I got used to the ride pretty quickly; I love the control. I think I might go apes though.

This is so true. My step dad has a 2002 883 and man when it's cold forget about it running smooth and it, was just tuned up. Get a EFI bike and all that goes away. You will get use to the mini apes, but myself I love drag bars.

btw, might want to consider a 2004 sporty... they went to rubber-mounted engines that year. And, then in 2007, they went to fuel-injection. So, keep that in mind when shopping. If i were you, i'd definitely look at an '04 versus the '03 you drove - there shouldn't be too much of a price difference.

Picking up my 2011 1200L sportster tomorrow!!
Greetings from Canada. I am new to the whole forum thing but am looking forward to getting some advise from anyone who can help. I am picking up my bike tomorrow and can't wait to hit the road. Only upgrades so far are saddle bags and a windshield. I would like to get the V&H short shots but not sure if they would look better in black or chrome (vivid black paint job-btw). I have seen pics of the chrome ones but none in black. Anyone out there with black ones? How do they look? Thanks!

To the gang,
Welcome new comer you should enjoy this ride.
I like the note about the torque, when you get use to it and go back to a jap something you're gonna think,
"this thing is broken" or "it needs a tune-up" or my personal favorite "what a piece of $hit".
For the record,
get the bike, ride the bike
think about add-ons
take-offs
what-if's
adjust ride,
adjust ride,
adjust...
GET IT!
Its yours do what you want and tell the world to take a flying flunk at a rolling doughnut!
Now get out there and give me a burnout!
