The biggest difference between mini apes and buckhorns, is the position of the hand grips.
On the mini apes, the grips point outwards and fairly level.
On the buckhorns, the grips point more towards the rider and slightly downward.
The buckhorns just seem to be awkward feeling, and awkward looking. But hey, some people love them. You won't really know for sure until you feel them for yourself.

I have the stock buckhorns on my '90 and was thinking of the Dyna apes. Will I have to replace any of the wires, cables, or brake lines?

I just bought a 07 1200L and after 2 hours of highway riding I realized buckhorns were the biggest waste of metal. For my it was the angle of my wrist that started hurting. I'm with makko will I need to replace my cables for mini apes(10" or 12")??

As Dalton said, "opinions vary". My g/f (5'1") found the stock mini-apes on my Street Bob very uncomfortable. She loves the stock buckhorns on her 2000 Lowrider, and feels she has much better control over the bike.

I don't have any problems with her bucks on the rare occasions I ride her bike, although the grip angle does take a bit of getting used to.

And I replaced the apes on my SB with stock Super Glide bars and 4" curved risers - far more comfortable and better control, IMO.

I'm going to go a bit against the grain here. I have bucks, and I'll be honest. I hate the way they look. But I have to pick and choose money wise. So suspension came first. However, I've gotten used top them and they are fairly comfortable. And as far as control goes, I find they give me tons as I can very easily push them because of the wrist position. But yeah, they don't look cool at all. Lol.

Love the look of Buckhorns. From HD 12" mini apes (awesome bars) to Nash 14" Pudgy Grits (ads too much weight) and too modern for where I'm going. I've never heard good things about the Buckhorns.

No way. I love them man. I'd run them if they were comfy. I'm fitting some new bars this weekend. All these new bars are too modern looking for my taste.

Always the contrarian, I liked bucks when I had them. I also really like the way they looked. I have the stock bars on my 883L but plan on changing them down the road. I'll try either an 8" mini ape or a buck. Just not sure which yet.
