Default V&H exhaust

Looking at installing a V&H short shot exhaust on my 2011 883 Iron. Harley shop says I will need to have bike retuned. Also have heard that this mod hurts the gas mileage. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

yep thats about it
short shots make most sporsters run really bad , they are not the best pipes for performance , you will need to add a fuel mod which adds more gas , in turn you will loose 10 - 20 % mpg ,and you may not even notice a HP increase because the torque will drop in the mid range , you may get a bit more top end though , if its looks only your after then great , but to be honest id give those pipes a miss , i ran straight shot slip ons on my nightster , the bike ran really nice without doing anything else , but is was too laud IMHO , my mate had the short shots staggered on his with a full stage one tune , and there wasn't anything between us performance wise , if anything i had a bit more torque at low revs and mid range , so its never going to be great

I have the shortshots on my 08 883 along with upgraded air filter. I added Nightrider X14IED's as i was worried about running lean after reading loads of comments online, but i eventually removed the X14's as the bike was running way to rich and choking. Have now ran for a couple of thousand miles with no problem. I did fit the 'quiet' baffles in the shortshots- it doesn't make them that much quieter, but the bike idles better and sounds better all round. I have lost about 10 miles from my tank range- light on now about 82 miles rather than 90+ before i changed filter and exhaust, but worth it for the look and sound of the pipes. I have noticed a big improvement in both top end and general torque increase over the full range, and my bike is faster than couple of mates with Sportys.

Yea I was looking into the VnH SS as well and after reading all the good and the bad decided that right now they werent worth the price meaning ( fuel pac intake and the pipes themseles ) so I was lucky enough to come across pipes a buddy had bought still in the box for a really good price ... 50 bucks for cycle shack slip-ons, normally they are more but I have to say for the price they look and sound 100xs better compared to stock

Looks like I will forgo the V&H stuff. Do not want to risk the engine for sure. Does not sound like the are very consistent.

Thanks

I am not a Short Shot fan, but they are ok pipes. I feel anytime you add a full set of pipes you should also get a high flow AC and a good tuner-that way the bike will run right, and you will get the most from each component. Now will you kill the engine if you just install the pipes and nothing else-NO!

I've had them on for a couple weeks now with the quiet baffles to add some back pressure and help prevent power loss since the stock baffles are pretty much non existent. Very free flowing exhaust systems from any brand will have this issue, so it's not a V&H problem. I'm running with the stock air cleaner. I don't feel any noticeable loss or gain in power, but that'll have to be dyno verified. It runs just fine and sounds great, so...
