However where HD buys "Their" gaskets is not info known to "You", or anyone else out side the industry. My Observation was made by the material, shape and durometer. Also if you read the original post i said "I would be willing to bet", not that they "Did". However I stand by "I would be willing to bet" based on my observations.

If you have "Specs on "James Gaskets" I would like to know what they are as I have an 07, and an 08 Sportster and am still looking for a better "Gasket"
Sorry for the oversite.........But if Cometic or James made gaskets for Harley they wouldn't prematurely fail. Search for failed/bad rocker cover gaskets, oil leak or leaking covers (posts/threads) and you'll find 1000's, with most of them on new bikes. Which would still have stock OEM gaskets on them.

Then search for failed Cometic or James Gaskets and let me know what you find.

However I stand behind..........."Cometic and James makes the best gaskets period....and neither makes them for Harley to resell as their own."

I don't have to do research on the "Cometic", I used them and they failed at approximatly the same interval as the OEM gaskets. The OEM's are what I used as the 3rd set on my 07 and they should be close to failure again based on mileage 22K.

I have put Xied's on the 08 (recent purchase with 1030 mi in Dec, now over 5000) which lowered the head and exhaust temps by a little over 125 degrees. I am hoping the gaskets on that bike show a longer life based on that.

The FI Sportster's run a lot hotter that the carb models, I'm just wonder why the other FI (Big Twin's) are not seeing the same failure rate.

Default Bolt PN

[QUOTE=Ragnar Danneskjöld;8595752]I'm probably calling it by the wrong name. This isn't my bike but what's circled is the bolt I'm talking about.

Torque specs for engine mount?-0dkke.jpgDo you have the bolt PN ?

If any of the bolts touch the cometic gasket it will damage it and it will leak I have been told. I change one and it didn't last long. I got it done at an independent shop and it has been good so far.
