My wife rides and 883L and I just added Progressive 440's in 13.5". Wow. This bike rides great now. It previously had 11.5" 412's. The 440's allow a rebound adjustment along with spring tension. The taller shock as stated above allows more travel which si the main issue with the L version of the bike.

I'm going to add some Progressive stock length springs to the front and some Ricor Intiminators and I will riding on rails next. I gotta mke this bike handle well. The extra 2" in height is not an issue for me or my wife as we are both 5'10".

Same questions about the air shocks!

The air shocks are pretty much a bolt on, you'll need some shock spacers, HD part # 6219 and longer bolts, top one is 1/2" UNC and lower one is 1/2" UNF, along with some 1/8NPT schrader valves to adjust the pressure.

There is loads of info on this conversion both here on this forum and on some of the others, as I said before best thing I've done to my bike without a doubt, even my wife said she's a lot more comfortable when we ride 2 up as I just add more air, simple!

Thanks for the explanation. Sounds pretty simple indeed!

I bought my 2007 883L used. It came with the sportster saddle bags. If I go with the air shocks, being that they are fatter than the stock shocks, will I still be able to use the saddle bags? They have a piece that wrap and snap around the back blinkers. Will the fatter shocks make them stick out too far to work?
