Default Changing Fuel Tank

I have a 2010 Xl 1200 X 48 do you have to do anything to fuel level sensor to correct the inaccurate fuel level? I changed from 2.1 gal. to a 4.5 gal. and now after only 50 miles my fuel light comes on. Thanks

Do what everyone else does and use the trip meter instead.

When you changed the tanks, did you get everything with the new tank? Or did you use just a new tin, and recycle the other parts?

I have the same problem, only at 60 which is about the same place it came on with my 3.3. I'm waiting on my new seat, when it comes in I intend on swishing the gas around a little but in the hopes that the float is in a strange position and that perhaps it need to be jogged out. If that doesn't work I'm going to pull the furl injection assembly out and check the float itself and see if its stuck in a position. Passed that have my mechanic take a look at it and if its a expensive fix I may just have to do the math myself LOL. Any advice would be appreciated as well.

Thanks

By the way I reused everything when switching tanks if that important. Fit no problem. Asked my mechanic and was told it would all fit and work.

Default I have a theory

OK lets see if I can get this across in type and see if anyone agrees with me. Ok old tank is a slim taller smaller tank, new on it a fat shorter larger tank. So when the level inside both tanks is the same and the sensor reads the level on the new bigger tank it does not take in to effect the tank it self but just the level. An since there's more area across there's more gas. So ineffect if your using the fuel sensor from the old tank your reading is reading the correct level but its wrong for the different gas tank. To solve the problem I need to get a senor for the 4.5 gas tank.
Ok last question........Is the name for the part fuel sensor?

Thanks all

Forget about the light....Use the tripometer....You should get close to 200 miles on a 4.5 gallon tank....I DO WITH MY 05 XL 1200 custom...........

He has no reserve, so I would want the problem fixed as well.

Better yet, you shouldn't have swapped tanks and just bought an XLC in the first place.

Lot better gas millage then me, I get around 30 per gallon in the city and I have not yet emptied a tank on the highway. worst case I will carry a small tank of gas a couple of times average it out and use the meter on my bike.

Well Streefighter I found the XL50 sportster used at a great price in mint condition. First off I'm not a harley Buff this is my first. I've been riding metric bikes all my life so I don't know all the special and correct models. I saw a bike I liked that ran well. I bought it. Then after 2 months I started getting a idea of things I wanted to change. Well I guess I changed it to another model Hot dam now I've learned something.

I like what I've done with my bike. I'm pleased with the way she rides and looks. I do like that peanut tank better but I would rather the range with the bigger tank. Also she's pretty fast too. Only thing I could do to make her faster is internal engine work but I'm happy with her the way she is now.

Peace
