Default Broken battery cable and snapped belt drive

Having an 03 sporty which vibrates a bit more than 04+ bikes, I thought the bolts on the battery terminal were loose when the speedometer and tach were malfunctioning. Turns out the positive cable was completely frayed at the motor. Fixin the cable wasnt too hard. Then I let my brother take the bike for a 4th of july ride when he called and said the belt broke 80 miles into the ride. Bike only had 13K miles on it. I am about to venture unexplored territory on my bike. Belt cost $200 and dealer wanted another $150 for install. So I'm gonna see if i can tackle this myself thanks to HD forum and the HD service manual. Wish me luck....

Good luck mate!

Ive been reading my service manual a bit. It dosent seem too bad changing the belt as long as you have the tools. A good bike jack, correct sockets ect and belt tension guage. I just bought a belt tension guage for my iron the other day, got raped price wise be the stealer here (normal for Aus freaking ridiculous). I normally buy parts through M&M cyles in OH as they treat me well and give great pricing and postage to Australia.

So yeah give her a crack and let us know how it goes

Woo-Hoo!! Took about an hour to install the belt. Hardest part was taking off the thunderheaders, rear brake MC, and sprocket cover. Haven't taken it for a ride yet. Going to clean the bike while the parts are off. Thanks to the HD forum (printed a couple of threads) and the service manual, learned how to do another thing on my sporty!!
