Question Need Opinions on upcoming BUY

OK well the story goes a little something like this:

I am in the market (or soon to be depending on this choice) to buy me my first Harley that will be registered under my name and be officially MINE. Been around my dads and his brothers Harley's and know that I am getting a Sportster. Here's where I need everyones opinion.

Right now I'm looking at a used 2000 Iron that so far looks like a decent deal. The guy wants $3200, but I'm sure I can talk him down to $3000. I am going to take a good look at it this evening and snap some pictures to post up (SO CHECK BACK LATER TONIGHT).

OR

I have a good hunk of change in the account (what I could use to buy the used HD) that I can use on a down payment on a new 2011 Nightster. This is the Harley that made me fall in love with the Sportster's. This next month I will be getting a new job that comes with a pay raise so I will have more than enough money to be able to afford a payment. But I would have to wait till next month or so before I would be able to get it.

SO what do yall think I should do? Go with a used 883 or just wait a little while and get the brand new bike?

Thanks ahead of time,
Seth

2000 Iron?...did you mean a 2010? If so, that's a steal! You could do a 1200 conversion on it if your decision comes down to engine size. Or you could buy a new bike, get a warranty, and then there is no doubt as to whether or not it has been properly maintained. If you'd rather not have that payment, hunt around...they're out there!

Thats what I'm thinking. You get the warrenty, and the feeling of buying something that is Brand Spankin new. never been rode by anyone else. I dont know about yall but I like the feeling knowing that I'm the only one to ever ride it. BUT I would like to have some input from more knowledgeable people than myself. And its a 2000 Sportster 883, that has 5888miles on it.

I bought mine new for that same reason. The biggest downside is the instant depreciation when you roll it off the lot. And if I remember right the initial 1,000 mile service after break in was $150-200. Since the 2012's are rolling out you will probably find some financing, pricing, or accessory perks, so keep that in mind too. If you find a responsible owner though, used is not a bad route to go either. Good luck on your hunt.

What are payments like for a new Nightster over 5 years? DO YOU REALLY WANT TO MAKE A PAYMENT EVERY MONTH? FvCK NO!

To be honest, I would buy neither. I would look for a used 2004-2008 rubber. For another $1000-$1500 you could buy a bike much newer than the 2000 and have something nicer and better. I bought my 06 883C in 2008 with 3000 miles for $5500.

Half the fun is looking! Don't settle for something unless it's just right!

Keep looking. I looked for almost 3 months and then found a 2008 XL1200R with 43xx miles for less than $6000. I feel I got a good deal.

I would probably have to side with the new one if you can afford it

The price on that Iron is nice but suspicous sounding I would check it over really well before I made up my mind

That is if it is a 2010 and the 2000 was a typo
because if someone told you they have a 2000 Iron 883 they are full of it up to their ears

Anyway best of luck either way

Thanks for all the input yall. The payments for a bike wouldn't be to bad for me. I'm on a full ride academic scholarship so I'm not having to pay for school. So all my money goes strait to the savings account.
@Rick7938 thanks for that link thats slick I hope I can find a deal like that. Tomorrow I'm making a trip to go talk to them about a new one. Just to see what it would be like after a 4,000$ down payment and 24 months to pay it off.
@mwegryn thats what I'm thinking maybe I can get something better than just a new bike. Might be some cool stuff to come with the new toy.
