I'd be disappointed if a tank bag scratches the HD paint, since it hasn't damaged any of my "jap junk" tanks....Started using a tank bag in 1985 and seldom leave home without one. Maps, GPS, phone, first aid, water bottle or hydration bag, change, camera, etc etc.
I bought a Rapid Transit Recon 19 for my SV, and it actually fits the Sportster 3.3 tank better. It comes with backpack straps and rain cover for around $85.
BTW that's the Old North Bridge in Lexington in the background, of "By the rude bridge that arched the flood" fame.
I also have a Wolfman Ranier that uses a harness instead of magnets. I'm going to test fit it and then I'll fab up some attachments straps: looks like it will fit well. Wolfman products are made in USA.

This is what i use...
A little pricey, but works well with the IRON tank, looks great for a tank bag. Unzips off the magnent part and you can just carry it as a back pack, has pleanty of storage (fits my laptop in it) Couldn't find a much better one IMO. Although i did notice you have to watch taking it off, it has left some small scuffs. So far they have all buffed out though!
