Default Flush mount gas cap

I just bought a flush mount gas cap for my 2008 nightster.I tried to install it and the vent tubing inside the gas tank is preventing the gas cap from screwing all the way in. The person I got it from said to cut the tubing a little bit. Is he crazy or does that make sense? Anyone else have to do this?

Mine is a Kuryakyn brand flush mount and fits fine, I don't think you should have to cut the tube, I bet the one you got is for a pre fuel injected with a different vent tube set up.
