One more thing .... Check for burned rubber on the back side or any where on your pipes. I hit some plastic one day and it got behind my pipes made a mess and stunk.

Could be that your boots are touching the pipes- Residue from a bag or other debris on the exhaust- Check you brake fluid (rear m/c) and make certain you dont have a leak that is burning off. Look at the drive belt and make certain that these isnt an issue there.

Last, pop your battery cover and see if the smell is stronger in that area. Overcharged or leaking batterys have a destinctive smell you can almost taste.

Lets us know what you find.

hey Suburban.. does your bike have a oil temp gauge?.. if not.. although not cheap.. it is worth it.. specially if you suspect the bike is running hot.. now.. back to my Red wine.. yeahh!

I find that after I run mine hard, (which I hardly ever do......liar, liar pants on fire), lol, there is a strong, how shall I say, heat related odor about it. It also could be the baffles starting to break up a little bit.

Just make sure the oil levels are good and you should be fine.

My last bike which was a Heritage had that "hot" smell after you shut if off. I put 50k on that bike without a problem.

sure it's not you're upper lip there tara??? lol. jus messin'. i too had a strange smell coming from the motor last winter when i would get off it. turns out it was dried up tar from the road that must have stuck to the inside of my pipe and every time it would get hot, stink stank stunk! bug and tar to the rescue! let us know how you make out.
