Windshields...
I didn't have one and got tired of taking a beating going 80 with the baggers. So I got a properly sized HD quick disconnect compact windshield and its a whole new ballgame.
It takes the wind sound almost out of the equation, I can hear the bike, engine and pipes nicely with it and no more sore neck getting my head bounced around.
I'm sure others have different experiences, but I actually love highway riding now, just thought I'd pass my opinion along. I'm sure I would hate it if it was improperly sized for me and I was going through all of the horror stories we've all seen.
Some folks hate the look of it, but with my sissybar/luggage rack w/ bag, saddlebags, and engine guard, it fits in pretty well.

I hate windshields! I hate the way they look, I hate looking through them or over the top of them. I feel like I am in my truck when I use one. I ride alot of miles, I have been nailed by every type of bug in the southeastern U.S., I've driven through storms with high winds but I still don't want to use my windshield. I just feel more free riding windshieldless. Now, I could care less what other people prefer. If you like riding with a windshield ride with a windshield, I don't think it makes someone less of a biker if they use a windshield. I glad you like yours, but me, I'll keep doing my bug research (so far June bugs hurt the worst).

I have the HD detachable one and yeah, it is definitely a must for me on long rides. It turns it into more of a cruising feeling than fighting the wind all the time. In town though I never ride with it on.
I also like to take the screen off my FF helmet and just ride with some safety rated glasses on for more of a breeze. On the highway I go back to the windscreen and windshield.

I will say this to anyone on the fence. If you want to go without the windshield be sure you get good glasses or goggles. I tried 3 or 4 different pairs before I found some good ones to keep the wind out of my eyes. After I found some good glasses I've never thought about using a windshield.
