RE: Storage for the winter suggestions
I just put mine in storage and got advice from the HD Dealer and fellow riders. Their advice coupled with what I think is common sense and what seems logical:
1 - Change the Oil; why - this will remove most of the contaminants built up and coat your engine with fresh mostly contaminant free oil
I believe most HDs use a synthetic blend, thats a good thing
2 - Add fuel Stabilizer and then run the fule down as low as probably 1/4 tank; why - When it is time to take your bike out of storage you don't want to try and burn out a whole 4.5 gal of fuel before adding fresh fuel.
3 - Get the Bike of the Concrete, raise it or roll it onto carpet; why - to salvage your tires from rotting; of course raising it is better this will also relieve th shocks.
4 - Put a battery tender on it; why - maintain a trickle charge to prolong the life of the battery. Even if you disconnect the battery i believe you may still need to charge it when it is time to get the bike out from storage.
5 - Cover the bike; why - just to keep it dust free and prevent it from getting accidentally scratched.
6 - A warm storage area is a good thing; why not.
7 - Don't start it up every week to let it run for a couple minutes; why - it's in storage leave it alone.
The above is only my humble opinion. It gives me my warm fuzzy that I have done all I can to protect my bike and keep it ready for the next ride. Good Luck.
