V&H does make some nice looking pipes and they do sound really good. I have SE II's on my bike right now and will probably stick with them. From what I have seen performance wise the SE slip on are better for performance then the V&H pipes. A vendor on another forum has done a lot of testing and has found that V&H pipe are not a very good performing pipe. But if you like the sound and the looks it really all in what you want.
The difference in performance with the various aftermarket exhaust systems is so small during normal 'street cruising/riding' that you would probably never notice the difference between any of them.

Some might give a couple extra horsepower at higher RPM ranges, which would make a difference in a track only bike.

But for normal riding just get whatever looks and sounds best for you.. All of the systems are improvements over the stock setup.
