Default New guy, questions about 04 XL1200R

New guy here, im looking to buy a 04 XL1200R. I havent looked at it yet, but it has ~11K miles, SE pipes and air cleaner, and i guess its been lowered two inches. He says its in excellent shape. Hes asking 5200. Fair price? Anything i should look for when i go to look at it?

Ive done some research on this, but there is so much that its hard to get solid info. Thanks all

Sounds like a 'fair' price if it is in minty condition...I bought a similar one from a dealer with lots of extras I took off and sold for about that price...so you might do better.

Problem to me is, what's the point in buying a Roadster if it's been LOWERED 2"....the reason people buy Roadies in the first place is the longer travel suspension that makes them better on the road for long-medium hauls vs. the std sportys. Also, the extra disk brake and tach are nice. Depends on what you want to do to it,,,,pose on it 'low rider' style, sure, go ahead.. Ride it over 50 miles in a day- pass and look for a longer travel suspension.

Post Script....IF the OEM shocks are included, change it back to R spec and sell the lowered shocks...

+1 The fun of a Sportster is have enough ground clearance to enjoy it's lean angle .. Not to mention Sportsters are not known for comfort even with the full size OEM shocks .. More Travel More Comfort ...

Well its being sold by a guy that works with my dad, he said hes got all the stock parts that came with it. Plus this is my first road bike, have had dirt bikes etc for a while.

I probably wont be making any too long trips anytime soon, and no commuting to work.
So much to learn! Thanks guys

Cool

All the stock parts,,,well cared for,,,decent miles,,,
Buy It and raise it back up.
BUT your gonna want good shocks
a good seat,,
and good tires XD

Sam,,,This Is a real Haul *** bike..
Make damn shure when ya test ride it,,
to have a LOW wrist on that throttle,,,FOLLOW ME ???

You hold yer wrist up above the throttle even a little bit...
When ya crack It open and let the clutch out that bike will whip your *** !!!!

Do your first ride In a big parking lot or a road with absolutly NO traffic.
Also remember those dual front brakes ??
you better remember them.
If yer going slow and the bike Is not rolling perfectly straight keep your
right hand AWAY from the brake lever,,use the foot brake.
That almost 600 Lb bike will go down so hard and fast you'll freak.
This thing ain't no dirt bike.

Roadsters Rawk,,but lowering one should be a hangin offense XD

If yer a short guy It may not be the bike for you XD
