Default Trans oil

By any chance is the Harley Davidson FORMULA Transmission and Primary Chain case Lubricant the same as the Harley Davidson Special Formula Sport-Trans Fluid Gear and chain case lubricant?

My 02 does what the OP is asking about. When you let out the clutch in 1st gear, it starts to go, then it sounds like it is slipping into gear, with a loud clunk, as if it was just barely catching at the start and sometimes it causes the bike to lunge forward. I found that if you downshift while you are still rolling to a stop, it doesn't do it so much, or maybe if you kinda slam it into first gear instead of just pressing down on the shift lever. I plan on pulling the trans out to inspect it for worn parts very soon.

That's it Exactly!!! I'll try that tomorrow. Funny thing is it only does it in the morning or when I'm going home after work. Like when the bike has been sitting.

Ditto on this happening rarely on my 2000 883XLH with 17k miles, only in first gear. For me it only happens when I've downshifted into first while still barely rolling with the clutch pulled in and I don't stop fully. Then while still rolling if I release the clutch hard and accelerate without also feathering it a bit in the friction zone the transmission slips/jumps a bit making a couple of clunking noises until it catches or I pull the clutch back in and feather it out. Has never happened from a clean full stop and I can avoid it by not releasing the clutch hard when doing rolling stops - accelerations.

Thanks dude, I'm new with street bikes/Harleys but I was just worried that it was a big issue with the bike and since I owe Money's on it I want to see if this is a serious issue.

I think that you're describing the engine hesitating when its cold, even my fuel injected 2007 does that if I don't let it warm up a few seconds. It is the engine leaning out and almost stopping for a fraction of a second. I think your clutch is fine or it would mess up all the time.

I don't think its quite that cut and dry....I've never had that problem and I NEVER EVER EVER wait for my bike to "warm up". I turn it on in gear and go...

I do think its that cut and dry, the clutch is not going to act up one minute and fix itself the next, no way.

Apparently it has never happened to you. If it did, you would understand exactally what we are talking about. I don't think it is the clutch, it is something mechanical in the trans with the shifting mechinism. Hopefully I will have time to investigate this weekend.
