Default New Owner has ?'s

So I purchased a 06 Sporty Custom a couple weeks ago. After doing some research I found out that the bike I bought was wrecked and not dropped like I was told. It looks as if it was ran into a curb. So I began looking at the bike and seeing what damage was left on the bike. It looks like the left fork is bent and the right steering stop is broken on the lower triple tree. What years of front ends can I put on my bike? I'm not looking to put a bigger tire of the front end yet since I just bought it and don't know the pro's and con's of it. Also, what other damage should I look for?

on another note, the bike started shutting off after it warms up a bit. Would the baffles being removed(lower backpressure) cause this? I've read up on drilling holes in the baffles to get a better sound out of it but I took the mufflers off and couldn't find the torx screws that supposedly hold the baffles in?

I hope you didnt pay alot for the bike. I would see if you could sue the person or something for lying to you about a crash. Did you test drive the bike or look at it before you bought it?

it rides fine, I just noticed it today. I've put about 300 miles on it and I haven't noticed anything wrong with it other than what was mentioned.

You are a bit confusing about drilling holes in the baffles but saying you have no baffles? I believe you are referring to drilling a hole in the pipe and adding baffles or lollipops?

The front end from 2004 to current, custom and low models will fit. A commonly made mistake is running the engine with the choke (enrichener) on to long. This will flood the cylinders and foul the spark plugs. If the bike sat for a long time the carb may need cleaning. Try running some Sea Foam with your next tank of gas. Always use 91 or better octane gas. Is the air cleaner (A/C) stock or aftermarket? As for the exhaust, is it stock or aftermarket? What brand ?

Manual states to run 87 octane in 883's. That's what I run and no issues at all. But if you have a 1200 - stick with the better stuff.

Scroll down to biknut's reply. The above picture is a lollipop in a BCT baffle (which I own), and the below picture is a torque cone that is placed at the "entrance" of the pipe.

Some people also make their own lollipop for a few bux:

mine started shutting off after reaching normal temps and it turned out to be the coil.....10 minute fix and only a $34.50 part. Just did it 2 days ago. Had to go to the dealer to get the coil. no one else had one and they all told me they would have to order from harley anyway.

The A/C is stock, I know the air filter needs to be replaced but all the places I could check in town didn't have anything. The exhaust is Screaming Eagle. When I took the muffler part off there was a wire mesh in it with some exhaust packing inside but no actual piping that would resemble a baffle. The second link that voony posted where the lollipop was bolted in, there is no pipe like that inside of the exhaust.

As for running the choke, how long should I let it run with the choke out? I took the plugs out yesterday too and they were all black as if it were running rich.
