Good looking bike. I've never heard either but, I have seen a lot of both on this forum being that I don't like to run the same thing as everyone else I looked for a long time before, I came up with my answer. Go CUSTOM! The entire exhaust is stainless from the end caps to the head bolts. The entire exhaust was hand made and the headers are equal length +/- 1/8". They do have baffles and muffler pack (still not very quiet though) and are completely rebuildable. Carl of Super Rat Performance (Featured in the July'11 issue of Hot Bike) in Bellingham, Washington built the exhaust for a very fair price. I have about $500 into the exhaust. I haven't tuned it yet so no dyno #'s but, the performance is noticeable and the sound is amazing.

Dang that is a sweet custom set up. I am looking into 2 into 1 for sportys as well and I definitely like the D&D over V&H. But, Freedom Performance is making a 2 into 1 that I really like for sportys and I like the look of it. Nothing against V&H they must make a good set of pipes because almost everyone is running them and the RSD 2 into one is pretty pricey. I guess I just would want something a little different looks like the best way to go is custom!

Definitely the best way is to go custom. I've gotten nothing but, compliments even several people asking where they could get a set. If you like them that much I can put you in touch with Carl he does have those mufflers pre built and is wanting to do a limited production run. Mostly he's just been using them for his own builds. You can find them on the Triumph Trident featured early last year in the Horse backstreet choppers mag, the July '11 issue of Hot Bike article "From Junk to Rolling Art" and of course on my bike. Oh yeah the bike on the table in the background is the same '66 XLCH that's in the current issue of Hot Bike.

If true performance is what you are after it would appear these sub-$300 pipes are what you want... http://hammerperf.com/xlexhaust.shtml (Patriot)
