Default Parts Compatibility between model years

I'm new to harley, just bought my first one, I've been a GSX-R/Honda rider for 15 years and finally pulled the trigger. Only problem is the bike I bought has a front tire that was curbed pretty bad.
I have a 2008 HD XL1200N Nightster and wanted to know what model years allow for parts swapping on that bike. Mostly the front wheel. I found a 2007 wheel for sale for a semi-decent price ($230 includes the used tire) and can't find anywhere if it will work with the 2008 setup. Thanks.

well, in one sense it breaks down like this (major changes by model year):

* pre-86 Ironheads
* 86-03 Rigid mount EVOs
* 04-11 Rubber mount EVOs
* etc

but that doesn't answer all questions re front wheels, and other things I'm sure. like, rims are rims, but the appropriate hub matters and I don't know which is which...

I *think* you'll be ok with that wheel, but can't say for sure.

someone more knowledgeable than me can maybe help you out there.

I may be off by a year, but I believe the 07 has a 1" axle, and the 08 a 25mm hollow axle.

Either way, it's not a problem, you just have to change the bearings for the correct axle size.

I was thinking that I would just pull the bearings out of the wheel on my bike right now and put those in whatever wheel I buy. I just need to get it powder coated now. Or maybe just some spray paint. Not sure how that would look though.
