Default Metal cover on Nightster headlight hood.

So the small hood that covers the top of the headlight on my Nightster has a piece of aluminum painted black on one side and held in place with sticky tape. Well it was in place with sticky tape now its sitting on my bench. It came loose on the ride from the dealership and looks like I didn't lose it only thanks to the windshield.

The big question is has this happened to anyone else? Does the cover have to be removed and replaced ever? I was planing on getting some 3M weather striping tape to hold it one but if I ever need to remove it the plate is so thin it would be destroyed by prying it off.

Thanks for the help.

I noticed mine is the same way on my new nightster. It is kinda just sitting there. I can't tell what its purpose is though. Maybe its a more common problem since I was thinking it was just my bike. Maybe someone else will chime in and say whats its for.

Mine fell off years ago.
Not a problem.
My bike lives outside 24/7 also.

It's a cover for your dummy lights on the older model sporties.

Over the years they never changed that part. It must have been cheaper to cover the holes with a sticker than to change the machining.

Ok cool. I understand it as a fix for an old carry over part. So for older/other models the dummy lights were separate from the speedo? You'll have to pardon me I'm pretty new to the motorcycle world.

I was thinking of moving the speedo one day to clean up the front end this little carry over might help me figure out what to do with the indicator lights.

I think you can get the lights from a Dyna. I know it has been mentioned before.

I think the lights from an older Dyna will in this that spot on the eyebrow, but never tired it myself. My Xl50 just has a chome think sticker like thing over the holes, but never came off.

Dyna or a "C" model sporty, and road/streetglides have them, I think
