Default Brass Flakes

OK, I strained 2 qts of the drain oil thru Coffee Filters to look for Flakes. Bottom line is that if were enough flakes to cover a pencil eraser I'd be surprised.

When I changed the oil shortly after I started riding the bike I put AMSOL in it (what I normally use in my bikes), my best guess is that the previous owner that put a Whopping 1030 miles on the bike in 2 yr had a sludge build-up in the engine, or oil tank and the oil flushed it out.

Bottom line here is that I'm going to send a sample of the drained oil (unstrained) for analyses before worrying further. Bottom line is that between tomorrow and Monday I plan to put another 800 to 1000 mi on it ( with a couple friends) then drain the oil again to check it.

Happy Riding!

Wasn't there something on here a while ago about some kind of brass like washers in the clutch that often fail?

They are rivets, but they would wind up in the primary/tranny oil, not the motor oil.

Default Update

Ok. I put another 900mi on the engine, ran it "Semi Hard" yesterday over some twisty hilly roads, then did some hard acceleration while passing in a rural area followed by some pretty spirited Xway riding last evening. Over all about 300mi yesterday.

Drained the oil today after a good run down the Xway to get everything warmed up, then drained the oil. I see about 1/5or less Flakes in the oil as before.

I'll drain again in 500 to 750mi and hope to see very little.

Input?

Bingo!

Never had any question of what any of my car motors, transmissions, or differentials were doing after getting the test results back. Definitely worth the $40. Let's you know exactly how craptastic a lot of the lubricants people rave about actually are too.

Still waiting for the container to send it out from Blackstone.

When it arrives I will take a fresh sample from the oil tank and send it.
