I just replaced the stock seat on my 06 1200c. What a difference! I bought a sundowner touring seat. Best 400 dollars I've spent yet.

From my limited experience the stock seats are not very good You pretty much have to switch to better quality aftermarket seats or in your (and my) case go to a manufacturer upgraded seat. I also have the HD Sundowner and in my opinion there is no comparison with it to the stock seat...this one is so much better and is money well spent.

I cant do more than 35 miles on my stock seat before I start to get butt-ache. I was looking at the Sundowner too, but I like the looks of the stock seat, its sleeker. Are there any other good, long distance options? Does the wider seats affect handling at all, since the extra width would make it harder to shift your weight?

Glad you like your seat, but I'd be calling where ever you got it and raising heck. The MSRP on a Sundowner is like $270. I think Zanotti's has them for $230 shipped. If that is not a typo...that is WAY too much money!

I just checked with Surdyke's and they have them for $215.96 plus shipping...
The Part Number for the Sundowner seat is 51507-04 for the 2004+ Sportsters, and they do have a retail price of $270 through the Harley 2006 Parts & Accessories Catalog..

The $400.00 MUST be a mistake! List price from any stealer is $269.95 and good discounts are available from Zanotti's, Surdyke's, and Chicago Harley. Since I ride solo 99.9% of the time I opted for the Mustang Vintage Solo. It's sitting in a box at my feet while it's pouring rain outside - can't wait to get it on and go for a shake-down ride!
