Default re-mapping bike instead of tuner???

i was told at the harley shop that i need to get a tuner for my bike because i put a different air cleaner on and i have python pipes. then i was told the other day by a friend that i can go up to the harley shop and just get my bike re-mapped and save $400.00. is that true? if i don't need the tuner i don't want to get it. i have a 2008 sportster fuel injected model. thanks.

Where are you saving $400? By using an inline tuner, you have a generic map installed, then go have a dyno tune done for most effectiveness. With the download, you'd still want to have it dyno tuned for above reason.

If teh dealer already has previously builta map for your type of sportster with teh same air filter and same exhaust, then, yes, you could just have the ECM flashed with that tune.

I had my pipes and a/c installed at stealer and they re-mapped it for , I think, 150.00. Have not had any problems as far as performance since I got it.

If you already have the Power Commander, then you only need to re-map that. There is nothing else to add.

You can not remapp without some sort of fuel injection retuning. You will have to have a super tuner, fuel pak, or power commander or some sort of tuner. There is no way without one. If they told your friend this thien they ripped him off. Your bike should be really lean if you have changed your breather and exhaust system without a tuner and ive always heard lean is not good but very hot.

Default Se super tuner

There are base mapps that you can download with the se super tuner. They are supposedly for the heavy breather and exhaust change (full system). I went the se super tuner cause i got one for $250 off ebay but it is very dyno tunable.

OK, you've already got a PC, that makes a world of difference. I'll presume a PC map was installed when teh pipes were, if not, head over to Dynojet's website, find a map for a same engine sportster 2007-present, with an intake and similar exhaust. That'll get you close. Find a Dynojet tuner in your area (again on their website) and ahve them dial in the map for your particular setup. Shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred. Would you be fine without the custom map, probably (assuming you installed a correct map), however, to maximize your gain (may be a few HP/Tq, may be a better AF ratio due to your location), have it tuned.

Doesnt a re-map, or download, adjust your fuel injection(retune) ? That is all I had done on my bike when the pipes, scremin eagle a/c were installed. So I guess what you are saying can't be done is being done on all kinds of bikes at Treasure Coast Harley. Unless I am misunderstanding your statement.
