Question Idiots Guide to Exhaust Replacement

O.K. I'm going to attempt to fit my new Bassani Pro Street exhaust myself in an effort to save a few $$$ not having done this before what are the pitfalls???, I have all new parts, I was told i have to reuse the original "CIRCLIPS" where are these fitted??, Also the flange rings that fit over the headers & bolt on to the heads, What i am curious about is they are actually bigger than the exhaust what holds the pipes in place as these actually fit over the exhaust

I replaced my stock pipes with new V&H short shots, and since I a probably an idiot, I'll give you a guide. Do yourself a favor and buy new screaming eagle brand exhaust port gaskets, new cir clips no matter what anyone tells you. It sucks to have everything apart just to realize the circlips are bent and the gasket is pinched.

You put the big diameter flange ring over the end of the exhaust, then manhandle the cir clip over the nipple on the end of the pipe. When you slide the flange flush with the end of the pipe, the cir clip slides to the nipple, gets stuck, and fits in the groove of the flange ring.

+1, and then just loosely put the entire system together before tightening all the bolts down.

Dr, I bought a set of the SE exhaust gaskets because the rear exhaust nuts fell off, I replaced the nuts with the aircraft nuts shown here somewhere. It turned out that the new SE gaskets are identical to the stock gaskets I removed. I think Harley stretches the truth on some of that stuff.

The stock gaskets have an angled profile and the SE gaskets are flat. Taking the old exhaust off is harder than putting the new one on. Just take your time and read the directions and you will be fine.

The stock gaskets Harley sells now are angled, twice as thick, and 100 times the pain in the *** to install then the screaming eagle brand.
