Dyna is not that much longer bike, than Sporty. With that height, all Harley bikes looks small. Except possibly Vrod and touring ones....

I'm going to look at a '91 Sportster tomorrow that looks like it has forward controls, but at the Harley dealership yesterday I monstered the bike. I'm looking to use it to commute from work back n forth, and on the weekends. I live in Long Island so there will be more stop n go than in most places.

With a limited budget what are some modifications that I would be able to do to the bike to help me out?

Last summer I rode a Suzuki Intruder that seemed to fit me pretty well and I was rather comfortable on it.

What other recommendations would you have to help me find a bike that would fit?

Thanks for your help!

I'm "only" 6'2. I'm having a stock solo seat built up at an upholstery shop.

If the Sportster doesn't work for you, the Suzuki V-Strom should be sold at Big & Tall shops, not dealerships. There are plenty of very large humans riding them. Two models, 650 and 1000. The 650 is a lot more popular. You can buy a Tall seat from Suzuki and Buell Ulysses pegs lower them. The seat height is at least 6" more than a standard Sportster.Try this site.

I would say you're too tall... Hell I'm 6 3 with a long torso... There was way too much of me above the seat... lol

Of course that never stopped me from riding it 13k miles a year... lol

Your going to be tall for nay bike out there and you will look like a grown up on a kids bike if you get a Sportster. You would for sure need forward contorls and a seat that sets you back for you to be somewhat comfrtable on a sporty.

I'm 6'2 and I actually went riding last night with this girl who had been asking me to go riding. She had a hot looking 883 Sportster and made me take it for a spin. I just felt way to uncomfortable on it. Really nice and fast and fun but I don't think I could ride it (the bike) for any stretch of time. She's about 5'2 and she looked good on it...plus I couldn't keep up with her! Not to mention she had some nice pipes on it and I couldn't hear my bike running sitting next to her. Humbling experience to say the least I'd hold out for a Dyna or a Soft tail.

Default Buy it!

I live in England and for me a Sportster is the perfect Harley for our roads, it's good in the twisty's (as you call them) and power wise it keeps up with all of my riding buddy's big twins, regarding size I don't think you'd look out of place on a sportster but I would opt for the 1200.
For my style of riding I prefer mid mounts or rear sets but I have to admit the 48 does look good and ride well but I'd soon get fed up with the small petrol (gas) tank and having to fill up with petrol (gas) every 50 miles. Regarding comfort my sportsters got a Le Pera bare bones seat and I've just come back from doing 800 miles over a weekend in Wales riding through twisting mountain roads without any problems.
