Default Stock Low bars to mini-apes?

Insurance adjuster will be here tomorrow...

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/gener...own-today.html

Anyway, I really like my stock Low bars but am thinking about going mini-apes with the insurance coin. Anyone gone from the Low bars to smallish apes? How is the handling difference between the two?

I guess I can say i have "mini Apes". They are 10" Z bars from Licks cycles. 29" width. I love them, but took a few rides to get use to the skinnier bars. My stock bars were 32" wide. I love them now and wont ever go back to low bars. The turning is a lot quicker due to skinnier bars, but love having my arms up higher for more comfort to my back by sitting more straighter up.

I went from the standard low 48 bars to HD 12" mini apes. I love these bars they are so much better for me. Not everyone likes apes but for my fat *** they really work great handling feels easier a lot less effort versus the stock shorties.

I switched to mini-apes on my Super Glide, and loved them. However, the Sportster ride is so much tighter that I really beat up my back with them, so I went to lower bars for the Sportster. Just something to keep in mind...

Exactly, P. When sitting upright, all the shock is transferred directly through the coccyx into the vertebral column. When leaning over, not only is there less stress on your arms at speed, but you are more able to soften the blow when hitting bumps.

I just want to clarify that I'm looking for the handling difference between the 1200L "Low" model bars and mini-apes. The stock Low model bars are kind of a cross between buckhorns and mini-apes.

Stock Low bars:

Traditional apes have a "fist in the wind" hand position. I find this more comfortable than a bend that ***** the wrist. To me they give better control also.

BTW, you just got the OL to say we need to get new bars ASAP
I found the stock Iron bars to be great for me. They are a bit lower and narrower than Nightster bars, but not so low as to be drags.

Best bet is to get some 1" PVC, and mock up a bunch of different heights/widths, and see what feels best. Then buy something that is close to that.
