Default Struggling with the purchase?

Need some advice;
A) Get a new Iron 883 paid for free and clear, have little money for the next three months. Still will have enough to take care of family and bills, so not that strapped.
B) Just get a bike, used. I have seen some HD Sportsters from around 5k-7k. Most have high miles and the ones with low miles are nice, but I really like the looks of the Iron.

In the long run this bike will be my wife's and I will move up to a Wide Glide. I have seen some used Glides and Road Kings in the price range of the new Iron. But am just unsure of the reliability of the used bike. Higher miles, 20k+, not real sure of the maintenance that the owner has done or if they are even honest about that.

Life experience, advice a plus.

Thanks

Essayons.

PS...I have a 2011 Iron on order will be here in the next couple of weeks. I have also found some used Sportsters that are not rubber mounted. how bad is the vibrations? I will be on the interstate a lot with this bike. I live 26 miles from the closest town, yea for the Army stationing me in the middle of nowhere!

Bought my '06 Low Rider new in April '06.

Mileage is just at 20,000 and the bike looks as good as a new one, and runs as strong (or stronger) than the day I got it.

Have receipts for all maintenance.

I'm sure there are some bike owners who don't maintain their bikes, but I also think there are plenty like me who do and have receipts to prove it.

So don't be put off by a bike with 20,000 miles.

I would say get a 2009/2010 used Iron w/1000 miles or so miles for 6000-7000.

Not sure a Wide Glide would be a move up either.

With the new one you will have a warranty that is about all the pros I can think of.

With a used one you will save some money and if you look around enough you will find one that is exactly how you want it. So you will not have to spend any extra modifying or dressing it up.

I bought my current ride used and couldn't be happier. All things mechanical breakdown from time to time. Just go over a used bike well and take it to a good indy for their opinion if you have questions about one.

New is always nice as well as having a warranty. I have bought a few sport bikes new, but both my Sportys I have got used. My XL50 has had it fair share of the common sporty issue, but been a great bike and I love it. The 1200C so far has not had any issue, but it's only had 2800 miles on it when I got it last summer. To me a Dyna is just a bigger slower Sporty-I mean I like them, but it's not like stepping up the a RK or SG. Plus there is no need to step up from a sporty IMO. Both my bikes are paid off so to me that's the best way to go.

If you want to end up with a big twin, don't buy a sportster. You likely won't come out ahead by buying/selling it.

And solid mount bikes vibrate. Be prepared to not be able to see out of your mirrors because of it.

I wanted a Street Bob or an Nightster or an Iron. I ended up getting a mint 2002 883C for $3,500. I saved lots of money, used some to add stuff on the bike I wouldn't have been able to add otherwise and kept my piece of mind knowing I will still be able to feed myself :-)
