RE: Sporty 883?
Hey harleypmb
I'm also in SA - Jozi. I just ordered a 883C on the weekend. I decided to go for the 883 because I haven't ridden for about 14 years and wanted to sort off with power that I could get comfortable with. I just prefer the feel of it too. It just feels right when I'm on it. What bike did you hire on your trip through the country? That should have given you a good idea about what works for you.

I have a 2003 883r.It is exactlly what I was looking for.I went to 7 dealers in and around Cleveland,Ohio to find the right 1.I just couldn't see spending the extra $2000 for basically the same bike with bigger pistons.I only had it lowered at the dealer then have added all other stuff myself. There is soooooo many parts and chrome and performace pieces it is basically endless.I think to date I have add 74 things to it so far.Not done yet either.I know the 1200 has more difference then bigger bore but not $2000 worth to me.But go with your prefence and you can't go wrong with either bike.

RE: Sporty 883?
I love the look of the standard XL883. I like it best of all of the Sportster line. It's an excellent platform to turn into a hot rod, which I'm in the process of doing. I think the 883 is a fine bike in it's stock form. It's the coolest IMO. As an experienced rider, I found it to be a little under powered for me after about 6 months, so I hopped up the motor. 20+ HP for under a grand is a good deal. If I had it to do all over again, I'd go the exact same route. Bottom line, get what you like the best and if it proves to be under powered, bolt on the 1200 kit.
