Default Nightster 1200 Exhaust Issue

Ok so I was riding down the freeway today at about 90 mph. suddenly I heard the bike get louder. I pulled off at next offramp to find one of the mufflers was OFF, Yeah OFF, straight pipe.....I rode home rest of the way, approx 25 miles......does this harm the bike if one muffler stayed on. I know they make straight headers with no mufflers, but the bike has to be remapped. I was thinking of getting some headers anyways.....whats my options and did I harm the engine at all? OK so I just looked, turns out the mount from the oxygen thing is broke off so the muffler must have got loose, i didnt see that. and the muffler was broke at the clamp....geez...i guess I should check everything over once in awhile.

No harm done. With your scoot, you have options. Figure out what you want and ask around about them. Nothin like feedback.

There shouldn't be any harm done as long as both the oxygen sensors are intact and in place as long as those are there the ecu can re map itself to an extent for changes in air/fuel ratio. There are a ton of options when it comes to exhausts for a nightster. D&D, Vance & Hines are just a couple. A good example are mine though they are custom the builder is hoping to get enough requests to reproduce the same exhaust. The entire system is stainless machined and welded by hand at a very reasonable cost. I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $600 total for the exhaust front to back. The head pipes are equal length within +/- 1/8in. which is very good even by professional racing standards.

I have the parts along with my stock exhaust if you want I'll part with it for a very reasonable price. The lower exhaust does have some scrapes from hard right corners through the mountain roads but, otherwise is in pretty decent shape.

Cool Muffler popped off

And the 02 censor went."Heyy cool I can richen up the mixture".

Muffler pops loose, scavanging ends, Pressure wave goes more negative,
02 smells more air since less fuel Is burning completely,,
It singnals for more fuel,,kicks open loop,,AFR "Hunts" for a 12.5 ratio..

You ride home,,
Hook It back Up,,,
That 02 has no memory of It even happening.
